About Dr. Semich
Dr. Ann Marie Semich offers online therapy in Florida, specializing in IFS Therapy, Anxiety, Trauma, Depression, and Loss.
Why did I become a therapist?
My early childhood years were hard. Somehow, I made it through with a developed sense of my own inner strength and a non-judgmental compassion for myself and for others. In my teen years, as a part of my own self-study, I became fascinated by psychology and started college as a Psychology major. Then, to be “more practical,” I switched to marketing. On my 30th birthday, a friend asked if I had any life regrets. I said that I wish I had pursued my love of Psychology. To which she replied, “It is never too late to pursue your dreams!”
So now, I am living my dream.
There is a phrase, “You can only meet people as deeply as you have met yourself.” My own inner journey has been a deep exploration of healing the past, living in the present, and embracing the future. I know what it is like to feel stuck. I know what it is like to go through it. And I know the gentle joy of what is on the other side.
If you are ready, I’m ready to go on the journey with you.
My Specialties
I am experienced in some of the most effective, researched-based therapies including IFS – Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Mindfulness-based therapies, CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and many others.
My all-time favorite therapy is IFS, Internal Family Systems Therapy because of how incredibly effective and life-changing it is for most people. Since 2013, I have dedicated much of my career to this modality, completing IFS Level 1, 2, & 3, and numerous other IFS trainings with Richard Schwartz and other Lead Trainers. Since 2016, I have worked as a Program Assistant for many IFS Institute trainings. As a Certified IFS Therapist and an IFS Approved Clinical Consultant, I offer group and individual consultation for trained IFS therapists, working toward IFS certification.
My Counseling Philosophy
Every human is unique, and their life experiences are diverse. My intention is to listen attentively to you and bring my full-presence and open-heartedness to our time together. I will meet you where you are and pace our sessions according to your rhythm and needs.
I offer a compassionate, and non-judgmental space for you to process your deepest concerns and experiences. I want you to show up exactly as you are and who you are. I’m in it with you. Together, we will reach your goals.
My Counseling Center
I started in private practice over 20 years ago. My practice grew to overflowing, so in order to reach more people, I opened a counseling center. Since 2016, we have grown into a group practice of 10 therapists, each specializing in different areas and populations. I am extremely fortunate to have the BEST staff of therapists who are well-trained and experienced, professional and kind-hearted. We are supportive of one another and enjoy our time together. That’s what makes any team a success!
My Community Involvement
For several years, I have been involved with a grass-roots organization that provides and serves delicious meals to the residents at a local homeless coalition. I regularly gather my counseling staff to help serve dinner to our friends. The residents are always so grateful. And for us, this is a deeply, heart-warming experience.
Additionally, for over 20 years, I have been a speaker and retreat-leader. The topics I speak on include IFS Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Spiritual Development and Renewal, and Mental/Emotional Health. It is a privilege for me to share my knowledge and experience with others and support them on their journey.
What am I Like Outside of the Office?
I love the water – I love being in the water, on the water and near the water. I enjoy paddle-boarding, kayaking, and boating. Or just sitting quietly and meditating on the waves or the dancing sun sparkles.
Yoga has always been a big part of my life. My grandmother took me to my first yoga class when I was 8 years old and I was hooked. I have been a Registered Yoga Teacher since 1997.
My favorite food is seafood and I live for my morning coffee (no cream or sugar). My favorite cities are San Francisco and Paris (I’ve spent a lot of time in both places).
I am always up for the next adventure, but I also like relaxing at home. I love to travel. My favorite vacation was hiking the Camino de Santiago for 15 days through Portugal and Spain, experiencing the beauty of the countryside, eating wonderful food and meeting amazing people. When at home, I greatly value meaningful conversations with my life partner (going on 27 years!) and snuggling with my sweet rescue dog Champ (going on 15 years).
Licenses, Education and Research
Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor and Marriage & Family Therapist, I hold a doctorate degree in Health Psychology and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Additionally, I am a Qualified Supervisor, providing supervision to Interns seeking state licensure.
I have published research in the field of Mindfulness and Yoga. My work resulted in significant findings for the value of mindfulness and yoga on awareness, non-judgment, non-reactivity, and decreased stress.
Knowing that my passions, interests, and experience align with the needs of our world, I am hopeful that I am making a difference in the lives of the people I meet with and beyond.
